What is a 501(c)(3) organization?

The most common type of tax-exempt nonprofit organization falls under category 501(c)(3), whereby a nonprofit organization is exempt from federal income tax if its activities have the following purposes: charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering amateur sports competition, or preventing cruelty to children or animals. For more information please visit the IRS website. Before submitting your nomination, we also recommend that you do some research on GuideStar and Charity Navigator to learn more about the charity.

For the purposes of 100 Guys Who Give Tucson, all charitable organizations up for consideration must be local. A local project associated with a national charity may be considered if 100% of the donated funds stay in the Tucson/Southern Arizona community.
